The Dog
When God made the earth and sky,
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees.
And when His work was finished,
not one was quite the same.
He said “I’ll walk this earth of mine
And give each one a name.”
And so He travelled land and sea.
and everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him
Until it’s strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth,
and in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, “Dear Lord,
There’s not one left for me.”
The Father smiled and softly said,
“I’ve left you to the end,
I’ve turned my own name back to front,
And called you DOG my friend!”

Pet Facts
It has been established that people who own pets live longer, have less stress, and have fewer heart attacks. That should be a good reason to get a dog!
About Dogs, Did you know that:
- Dogs and cats, like humans, are either right or left handed.
- Canines and felines do not only suffer from the occasional flea, some dogs and cats suffer from arthritis as well.
- There are 701 types of pure-breed dogs.
About Cats, Did you know that:
- A cat sees about six times better than a human at night because of the tapetum lucidum on it's eyes. This is a layer of extra reflecting cells which absorb light.
- A cat can run about 20 kilometres per hour
- It has been scientifically proven that stroking a cat can lower one's blood pressure.
- A cat uses whiskers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through. The whiskers act as antennae, helping the animal to judge the width of any passage.
- A cat will clean itself with paw and tongue after a dangerous experience or when it has fought with another cat. This is an attempt by the animal to soothe its nerves by doing something natural and instinctive.
- A cat always falls on its feet. But did you know the higher a cat falls from, the lesser it hurts itself.
About other animals, did you know that:
- A cow gives nearly 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.
- A zebra is white with black stripes. (bet you thought it was black with white stripes). And no two zebras have stripes that are exactly alike.
- A cheetah can run 76 kilometres per hour. The cheetah is also the only cat in the world that can't retract its claws.
- Reindeer survive the extreme cold by filling up with moss. The moss contains a special chemical that helps reindeer keep their body fluids warm.
- At birth, a panda is smaller than a mouse and weighs about four ounces.
- The grizzly bear can run as fast as the average horse!
- A chimpanzee can learn to recognise itself in a mirror, but monkeys can't.
- Polar bears are left-handed.
